Diomedes, one of the greatest Greek heroes of the Iliad, also took part in conquering Thebes before joining the expedition to Troy. He was one of the seven sons, named the Epigoni of the After-Born, who avenged their fathers who had been defeated ten years earlier.
Later, the ships sailed to Troy and the son of Tydeus made an even bigger name for himself fighting before the famous Walls. His battles with Trojan superstars Hector and Aeneas are highlighted by Homer and Diomedes is the only hero to injure a God as he wounds both Aphrodite and Ares in Book 5.
